ALSO, THIS IMAGE WILL NOT CROP WELL TO SQUARE FORMATS - PART OF THE IMAGE WILL BE LOST. When not overwhelmed with the vibrancy of flowers, I start to notice foliage, seed heads and seed pods, berries and branches, the graceful arc of stems, the complex mathematics of leaf veins and fern fronds and dead flower centers. There is beauty in decay, its promise of a new generation.

Are you someone who just can't specialize in anything? And yet, you have to make a living? Then we are cut from the same cloth. For my day job, I'm a scientist, a biologist, a geneticist who works with fruit flies to work out esoteric things like how genes are packaged in the cell, or what the genetic basis of aging might be. It's a great job, and I've wanted to be a scientist since I was a child, but I also wanted to be an artist. Both. And a musician. All three. Music was my life for a while; I sang. Nowadays, I hit top C's to bring the class to order.
