Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

I made this image standing on the Seawall Boulevard in Galveston, TX. The best time to photograph the full moon is when it has just risen from the horizon and there's still some light in the sky. The luminosity of the astral body must match that of the sky and the surroundings, and you only a have a window of a few minutes to do this!
Consulting the Photographer's Ephemeris application, I knew exactly when and where the Full Moon was going to rise on the Gulf of Mexico. I made the hour and some minutes drive from Houston, and after photographing a few landmarks around the island, I set up my gear on the seawall. Overlooking the beach and the Historic Pleasure Pier, I knew that the moon was going to rise at 7:45, so I figured I could try some compositions until it would stand next to the Ferris wheel. It is not easy to shoot with a telephoto lens at this time of the day, since there's not much light available. The ISO must be raised, -thus introducing more noise to the whole i...
